The Israel Women’s Network (IWN) highlights the severe and disproportionate impact of war on women and girls, especially when they are excluded from decision-making processes. War exacerbates existing gender inequalities, leaving women more vulnerable to violence, economic harm, and disempowerment.
Women are bearing a significant burden during the ongoing conflict in Israel, with 96% of calls to IWN’s Rights Center coming from mothers facing challenges such as balancing caregiving with work. The economic toll is severe, with 72% of women reporting financial harm. The ministry of welfare reported an increase of 67% in calls regarding violence. Policies around financial aid and firearms also pose risks to women’s safety and economic independence.
IWN calls for urgent action to ensure women’s representation in decision-making and the reform of policies that contribute to economic insecurity and abuse. Sustainable peace requires addressing the unique challenges women face in conflict.
